Controlling Corrosion in Water Distribution Systems

COURSE OVERVIEW

Corrosion in the distribution system can cause health hazards. When pipes are corroded, some of the metal from the pipes enters the drinking water and is consumed by the customer. Corrosion can also cause taste and aesthetic problems. Unwanted changes in water quality can occur due to corrosion products entering the water, such as increases in the concentration of lead and copper, the presence of iron corrosion products (colour and particulates referred to as “red water condition”), and an increase in pH due to leaching of lime from cement-lined pipes.
