Developing an Emergency Response Plan for Water Plants
COURSE OVERVIEW
In an emergency, the mission of water treatment and distribution system operators is to protect the health of its customers by being prepared to respond immediately to a variety of events that may result in the contamination of the potable water supply or disruption of the source water.
COURSE OUTLINE
Risk assessment and emergency preparedness: Definitions, methodology for risk assessment, critical control points and monitoring, structure of DWQMS, implementation action plan. Emergency response plan guide: What should your plan include? Emergency response plan: background, description of facilities, contact list, roles and responsibilities, emergency response decision tree, informing the public, list of potential emergencies, MSDSs. Appendices: Guidance on developing emergency response plans for water systems in First Nations communities, Health Canada guides, culminating activity.
